Elon Musk shock: Tesla CEO makes billion pound investment in Berlin after ditching the UK – Express.co.uk

The newly announced factory will be set to produce 15, 000 cars annually, allowing the company to move away from its reliance on a single auto-assembly plant in California. The production line at the Tesla’s Berlin factory, will manufacture the company’s SUV Model Y, which could see production as early as 2021. The Berlin site will initially employ 3, 000 people, with that number eventually rising to 7, 000, according to the report. The company which has a market value of $63billion (£48.7billion) could even receive up to €300million (£256.7million) in subsidies from the EU, acting as one of the main reasons thought to be behind the choice of the location. The news of the investment from the tech giant comes as Elon Musk has revealed he blamed Brexit for his decision to shun Britain in favour of Germany to host Tesla's first European factory. The billionaire entrepreneur claimed Brexit uncertainty had “made it touristy” to put the electric car company's gigafactory in the UK. Mr Musk had been planning to bring a Tesla Plant to Europe for years, but up until recently it had seemed the UK was one of his preferred locations. At an awards ....
